of the Chinese Custom Authorities in the neighbourhood of Macao and
Strong không Lord Derby has informed Monsieur de
that the question will receive careful consideration - and his Lordship proposes to defer returning a definitive answer until he shall have been able to consult Sir J. Wade, who is expected
in
England early next year.
In the meantime, his Lordship would be glad to be favoured with remarks which Lord Carnarvon may wish to make upon the subject.

greatest interest the Despatch which was addressed to you by Lord
Derby, in respect to
the posts of control & Customs established in the neighbourhood
of Macao & Hong Kong, & am formed to subject of my despatch of July 5 ult., of the aforesaid Despatch, which has been transmitted to me
on the 13th Sept: ult. The Secretary of State
for Foreign Affairs, after having ascertained that the views of H. M.'s Govt had been taken into most serious consideration;
thinks that no analogy
exists between the
establishments
of Macao & Hongkong,
because the Chinese Govt recognized Macao as
being a Portuguese
possession,
